Ha Long Bay is about 2.5 hours from Hanoi on the expressway and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with nearly 2,000 limestone islands.
Best time to visit
- March to May: mild, little rain, clear water.
- September to November: sunny, great for kayaking.
- July and August: storm season; boats may be stopped by the bay authority.
